How necessary is shirtlessness in getting this scream down?

Seriously though, all shirtlessness aside, I can't say I care for the overly dramatic first couple of lines but the scream itself does seem pretty dead-on to me. What I'm noticing in particular is a few seconds in, he seems to lock it into place and really turn on some good sounding distortion. Does that seem like an accurate assessment? It's something I can't quite imitate. I can sing it clean no problem. And I've learned how to get distortion from watching your other videos, but combining the two is the tricky part.
