This module introduces the core skills that form the backbone of your animation journey. Each lesson builds on the last, laying a foundation you’ll draw on for every project ahead. It may not be the flashiest stage — bouncing balls and pendulums can’t compete with bringing a character to life — but mastery begins here. The focus and discipline you invest now will become the tools that define your future work.

In this module, you'll be working with character models as we focus on developing strong gestural skills. Our goal is to bring emotion and clarity to your characters through expressive movement. There are two types of animation: Action and Acting — in this module, we’ll concentrate on Action. Cycles can be some of the most challenging animations to master. That’s why we’ll dedicate significant time and attention to building strong, believable cycle animations. Let’s dive in and get to work!

Now that you have a firm grasp of action-based animation it's time to shift to acting. In this module you will learn to truly breathe life into your characters while focusing again on performance. Facial acting and body language will be studied and practiced. Within this module you will also learn how to compose shots, work with cameras, complete sequences and all will prepare you for the final stages where you will produce your highest quality work to be showcased on your demo reel.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER You’ve now developed strong animation skills while maintaining a working 'demo reel', or portfolio. This module challenges you to create your best work yet under production-style deadlines. Your focus is to balance quality with speed while completing your portfolio pieces. You’ll grow most through the submission, feedback, and revision cycle, just like in a real studio. By the end, you’ll have a reel that's ready to impress studios. Good luck!
