Working Wednesday!
What’s everyone working on today? I think I’m going to work on some abstract floral greeting cards this evening. Feel free to share your work!
This week's challenge.
Create a very small abstract (maybe 4x6 or 5x7) using just three colors in no more than 3 minutes. Post your results in the comments. Complete the challenge as many times as you'd like. This will help you loosen up and be more intuitive with your pieces since there’s a time limit. Each week from now on, I will be posting the challenge on Sundays. Next week’s challenge will build on this one.
Introduce yourself
I’ll go first. I’ve been painting since around 2016. I was inspired to fully focus on my art career when I was able to participate in art classes at a peer-run recovery center that I managed. The members of the center inspired me so much - so much that I left my job to pursue art. I show my art at Inman Art & Frames where I also work part-time. I also participate in shows at Gallery 101, in Owensboro, and at the library. Last year I had a solo show in Columbus, Ohio at Fresh A.I.R. Gallery. I have a solo show coming up the end of this year at the Owensboro Convention Center. I sell on eBay, Etsy, and direct to individuals. I also run a snail mail club called Mailbox Magic that focuses on self-care and bringing joy to recipients’ mailboxes. I’ve published a book titled “Abstract Painting for the Absolute Beginner” that is available on Amazon. I also have a couple adult coloring books, also on Amazon. It brings me immense joy helping others in their painting journeys! ❤️
Introduce Yourself
Hello! I hope I’m putting this in the right place lol. I’m Becky Gilles. I live in Newburgh and have taught art at JHCastle Elementary. For 33 years. Prior to that, I started out of college - Murray State - in Henderson teaching art to middle schoolers grades 7-9. I retired last summer from the school corporation, but I still continue to teach part time after school art lessons in Newburgh for grades 3-6. Although, I have created almost daily for 35 years, I haven’t really created anything just for me in all that time. I only very recently picked up brushes and began painting for fun. I am intrigued by abstract art because of the freedom it seems to offer, but I don’t even know what my own “style” is at this point, or what direction I want to take my art! I am fascinated with Lori’s work and so many others I see online. I can’t wait to learn more! 🥰
