“Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; keep her, for she is your life. (Proverbs 4:13 (NKJV)
Proverbs 4:13 (NKJV): “Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; keep her, for she is your life.” This reminds us to pay attention, learn, and avoid the pitfalls that come from ignorance, because as Hosea 4:6 teaches, lack of knowledge is destructive. Godly wisdom isn’t optional or merely helpful; it is essential for life, protection, and direction. When we cling to wisdom, we cling to the very thing that sustains, guides, and safeguards us.
As a Man Thinks In His Heart so Is He (Proverbs 23:7)
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Those inner thoughts don’t just pass through us—they shape us. They form our character, influence our decisions, and ultimately guide the actions that determine who we become. When we guard our thoughts, we guard our identity. When we elevate our thinking, we elevate our life.
Proverbs 13:20 says, “He who walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm.”
Proverbs 13:20 teaches that the people we walk with shape the person we become, reminding us to choose our friends and our environment with intention. It calls us to avoid the influence of those who reject God’s wisdom and instead surround ourselves with those who fear the Lord, because wisdom is contagious, and so is foolishness.
The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hates bribes will live (Proverbs 15:27)
This teaches that anyone who chases illegal gain, money, bribes, or dishonest profit, ultimately destroys their own household. Greed doesn’t just damage the present; it jeopardizes the future of the entire family.

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so” (Proverbs 3:27).
This reminds me that to obey is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). Delayed obedience is simply disobedience dressed up in good intentions. When God places something on my heart and gives me the ability to act, the timing is part of the instruction. To withhold, postpone, or rationalize is to step out of alignment. True obedience is immediate, wholehearted, and without hesitation.
