🌱 Day 4: Micro-Habit: Interrupting the ā€œImaginary Conversationā€
Have you ever noticed your mind rehearsing a whole conversation that isn’t actually happening?
This practice was shared with me by my beloved yoga teacher and mentor, Laura, during my yoga teacher training. She talked about our stories — the narratives we carry about who we are (wife, mom, daughter, employee, boss, etc.) — and how they quietly run in the background of our minds. It’s one of my favorite ways to come back to my body and my breath when my mind starts racing ahead.
So today’s micro-habit is about interrupting the imaginary conversation.
You might notice it when you’re mentally rehearsing and hear yourself:
  • explaining yourself
  • defending a choice
  • bracing for someone’s reaction
When you catch yourself doing that, gently say to yourself:
ā€œThis is an imaginary conversation."
ā€œThis isn’t happening in the here and now.ā€
That’s it.
No fixing. No arguing with your thoughts. Just a soft reminder that you’re here, now — not in a future moment that hasn’t happened yet.
Try it a few times this week and notice how it feels to return to the present. 🌿
