We know the struggle is real, we also know that the struggle happens just as much internally as externally. When we experience any kind of internal conflict, what is really happening is that there is a disagreement between our heart (our spirit) and head (our ego). We are raised in societies that are dominated by the ego. It is very easy to listen to the ego, mindlessly obey what people, places and things teach us, and dutifully plan our lives struggling toward what we have been told we want. But our spirits carry their own special kind of intelligence, an intelligence that is often nonlinear, subtle, and often seemingly abstract. Our ego is what helps to give our lives structure, direction, and practical application it is designed to keep us safe from threats real or imagined. But our spirit is what knows why we are here and what we are for. Without listening to our spirit, we often live soulless, unfulfilling, and inauthentic lives. But without listening to our egos, we live in absolute chaos. Most of us identify through the ego, the body or fluctuate between the two. In the rememberers approach we learn to identify through the spirit while attending to the needs of the ego and body, all three get a voice at the table but we lead with the spirit. Most struggles begin within as internal conflict. The cause of internal conflict is attachment to beliefs, desires, and expectations which are all manifestations of the ego. Quite simply, struggle begins when we believe our thoughts, instead of seeing them for what they truly are: passing fluctuations of energy within the brain. In the rememberers approach we learn that we are not our thoughts, we exist between our thoughts. We learn we are not our egos we are separate from our egos. As we move into a spirit led life we often find new freedom and happiness. We come understand how our experiences are only that, experiences, part of our path. We find serenity and come to know real peace. Feelings of powerlessness and unworthiness fall away. Where we used to struggle for answers, we intuitively know what direction to take.
