Wellbeing Walks
All of us have an innate need to spend time outdoors, so why do we fight it?
Why do we talk ourselves into staying in our wee cosy houses with all our home comforts? Because it's easy.
We've become so accustomed to the 'easy' way of living that anything hard or requiring a bit more effort than the norm, we have have to work harder to get ourselves to do.
This is in part, due to the amygdala - the part of our brain that holds our threat response. Anything that triggers potential threat e.g. fear of failure, fear of over exertion, fear of injury etc. it boosts our anxiety & cortisol and puts us off.
Yet, we find peace in wooded areas, it's a familiar environment to use, our brains thrive from the cleaner oxygen, the fractal patterns we see and the gentle exercise we get.
This is just a gentle reminder, to challenge that part of our brain that wants to keep us soft, unresilient and hidden away in our houses.
Explore local, explore further afield, find comfort in the outdoors and heaven forbid you actually train the brain to be okay with this in the process.
