Flora ID
People often ask how I became decent at identifying flora. Truth is, there is people far far more advanced at it than me and I aspire to be that knowledgeable HOWEVER, it all starts with a 5-10 minute walk.
I head out from my front door and notice the variety of flora on my doorstep and take photos.
A) I enjoy photographing natural things (even if they're not that great).
B) When taking photographs and exploring the flora up close, you begin to 'see' various aspects of the plant. You notice colour, shape, feel - hairy/spiky/soft.
You notice the smell and pattern formations.
I then take these photographs back and research on various books or online to identify it.
There are apps out there that can support learning too, but caution is always advised.
The more you surround yourself with natural things - the more you notice and become accustomed to how they look, feel and smell. Almost Rewilding yourself in the ways we have lost in modern day.
Weekend Challenge:
🌿 Head out and work to identify 2-3 plants in your area (remember a weed is only a plant that someone dislikes! So they very much count in this challenge!)
Who's joining in?
I'm taking part 🌿
I'm enjoying these challenges 😎
Maybe another day 🤷🏼‍♀️
