Bible notes 6/17
Proverbs 15 - be a man who speaks life and encouragement with his words, call others up and encourage them to pursue greatness. Leaving the path comes with stern consequences, keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, don’t be distracted or attracted by the objects or the temptation. Satan wants to make you look away for a split second, like Peter on the water, and cause you to sink.
Acts 11 - Stephen being killed caused the believers to scatter, and because of that the gospel spread. Stephen dying was tragic, on paper it seems unfair and upsetting, but the lord draws purpose from it all. This death he suffered saved countless souls, including the beginning of gentile Greeks coming to Christ. When the news got back to Jerusalem, they sent Barnabas (son of encouragement) to Antioch to encourage the new believers. He set out to find Saul (paul) also, and brought him on the journey to Antioch. They ministered for a year.
Acts 12 - James, brother of John was killed by king Herod and he arrested Peter also to kill him. The church prayed earnestly and Peter was able to break out of church with the help of the Lords Angel. Prayer works, collective prayer amongst a body of believers works.
1 Kings 2 - Adonijah and Joab are put to death for lack of loyalty, and Joab specifically for defying David during his reign. Delayed punishment for Joab.. the Lord doesn’t always strike down right away, he gives me opportunity after opportunity to correct my course. Sins catch up with you, darkness only stays darkness for so long but everything gets exposed. Solomon starts his reign by cleaning up some of the corruption that was lingering around in the cabinet. Your surroundings will influence you, kill off and get rid of anything that doesn’t serve your path and calling.
1 Kings 3 - Solomon is given an opportunity to ask the Lord for anything, and he chooses to ask for discernment to lead well and to carry out his calling well. I have a calling, and it’s often I try to carry it out on my own terms but this is a reminder that it’s Gods mission, I’m just a role player and I should consult the Lord often to make sure I’m carrying out my role in a way that’s honoring to him.
