Quotes of the Day 45: Quality
Quote 1: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." - Shigeru Miyamoto
Quote 2: “Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.” - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
Shigeru Miyamoto was born on November 16th, 1952. Miyamoto is a video game designer, producer, artist, and game director at Nintendo. Miyamoto joined the industry in 1977 as a character artist and product designer and he went on to start some of Nintendo’s flagship and most recognizable series including Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and Pikmin. 3 years after being hired in 1980, Nintendo tried to establish a successful arcade game through “Radar Scope”, but their interest and demand faded quickly. Head of Nintendo (the toy company) at the time was an old friend of Miyamoto’s father, Yamauchi, who called on Miyamoto to see if the machines could be converted to a new more successful arcade game. Through this passage of events, Miyamoto made the Donkey Kong arcade game. Miyamoto has continued to make games for Nintendo as he is still credited as supervisor for games which came out just earlier this year. Miyamoto, despite being such an influential figure who made multi-million dollar franchises, still remains humble and down to earth.
Miyamoto’s quote explains how the quality of your work functions. If you delay finishing something by working on it day after day or I create an amazing finished product, it will always be better than a rushed product which did not have the time to cement its impact that it should have had. While Miyamoto is referencing video games here, any other work could have the same concept like application essays or research projects, so long as they are finished on time, of course.
Meditations was written by Marcus Aurelius and published (the earliest book I’ll ever mention here) in the year 180. Aurelius was the Roman emperor from 161 until his death 19 years later in 180. The book is Aurelius’s reflections on the world as he was not only an emperor, he was also a philosopher. His work is widely considered as some of the best philosophical work ever published. I would continue summarizing it, but anything I do wouldn’t hold a candle to the best explanation of this book here on Skool by Seriously, check out his series:
Aurelius’s quote explains how we can improve the quality of our life. We see the stars in the night skies shining down upon the world and recognizing that beauty can bring quality into our lives. By reflecting on the world’s beauty, we can realize how to improve ourselves through reflection of the world around us so we don’t just have to watch the stars. With enough effort, we can shine around the world with those stars.
I hope that you enjoyed today’s quotes and I hoped that they improved your quality of work and life. Have a great day everyone!
