Hey!
I recently had to opportunity to talk with Natasha Kulwiat(2022 Gorden E. Moore Award). I mainly asked her about cold-emailing because my research requires a lab. I would like to share some of her advice with y'all. Read articles in the field you are interested in. This is because you will start seeing the same names over in again. If you a interested in their work note down their name and email. You may also ask if most of the authors live in another state, some people do remote internships for labs. Also attach a resume, this can include previous research, education, and training/certificates. Everything you would like to tell the professor about you. Remember to make your resume about one page, since they may be busy and not have a lot of time to look at your email. Next, if they don't respond, follow up. They may have not gotten to it because of the many emails they get. Make sure to also email them on a weekday or early in the week because they don't usually work on the weekends so they don't look through their emails on the weekends. And remember good luck, I hope this helped.:)
