In Genesis, God speaks light into existence, but Scripture doesn’t tell us explicitly how that happened. It simply says, “the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Science has found something that may help us picture it. When powerful sound waves move through water, they can form a single bubble that collapses with immense force, releasing a flash of light, a process known as sonoluminescence, or light from sound.
Now imagine that on a universal scale. The first vibration of God’s voice could have produced one vast cavitation bubble within the waters of creation. When it collapsed, the energy released fused hydrogen into heavier elements, forming the minerals, metals, and compounds that would become the building blocks of life.
When God said, “Let there be a firmament,” He created a new cavitation, an expanse, and set the mineralized waters into motion. Their rotation caused the entire field to become electrically charged, forming a vast plasma continuum, the radiant firmament that divided the “waters above” from the “waters below” and carried light and energy throughout creation.
So when we see comets, filled with water, minerals, and dust, we may be looking at the preserved remnants of that first divine event.
