Why Guardian Homes?
I’m often asked why I use a guardian program in my breeding operation, and I’d like to share the reason behind it. My first visit to a breeder was heartbreaking—I saw 20 to 30 dogs kept in two separate runs, and I left thinking I could never be involved in breeding if that was the reality. After reflecting on this experience, I came up with the idea for the guardian program. It’s a wonderful way to ensure our moms and dads have loving forever homes even before they retire. While I would love to keep all of our dogs, that wouldn’t be in their best interest, especially after more than a decade of breeding experience. Instead, our parent dogs come to us for breeding and raising puppies, and the rest of the time they enjoy life with their devoted guardian families. When their breeding days are over, they are spayed or neutered and officially become part of their guardian family for the rest of their lives. The transition between homes is seamless, and thanks to this program, each dog knows the love of not just one, but two families!
