Assignment #10: The Black & White Challenge
Thank you all for the great submissions for the "Monochromatic Emotion" assignment! Now that we've explored color psychology and harmonies, we are going to do the exact opposite for our 10th Assignment milestone! The Assignment: Black & White We are stripping away the color completely. Your task is to shoot and edit a purely Black and White photo. Without color to guide the viewer's eye or create a mood, you have to rely entirely on light, shadow, contrast, and texture. (i know @Lorenzo Zanna is gonna love this 😂) The Twist: Remember the "Black & White trick" we discussed in our live call? Converting an image to B&W is the best way to see your true mid-tones and understand your histogram. Without color, your composition & story needs to be bulletproof. When creating your image, pay close attention to your contrasts: - Is your subject clearly separated from the background? - Are your shadows deep enough to create depth? - Are your mid-tones balanced, or does the image look flat? The Goal: To prove that a truly strong photo relies on structure and light, not just a pretty color grade. 📝 How to participate: 1. Go out and shoot/edit your Black & White image. 2. Create a New Post inside the "The Assignment" category. 3. Title Format: Please use Assignment #10: [Your Title] 4. Number of pictures: 1 strong photo. 5. Details: Tell us briefly what element you focused on to make the image work without color (e.g., textures, harsh light, leading lines, deep shadows). ⏰ Deadline & Review Call: Submit your work before our next live review call on Sunday, April 19th. (If you can't make it to the live call, just leave your specific questions in your post and we will cover them in the recording!) Let’s see how well you can shape the light. Have fun and stay creative! ✌️

Let's rethink our Coffee Hour! (I need your input) 👇
Hey everyone! 👋 Honest check-in: Things have been a little quiet around here lately. I've been deep in some projects on my end, and I've noticed attendance at our bi-weekly Coffee Hours and recent assignments has been a bit low. And you know what? That’s completely okay! Communities evolve, seasons change, and I want to make sure the time we spend together in this group is actually valuable (and not just another exhausting Zoom meeting on your calendar). I had an idea for a pivot, and I'd love your thoughts: What if we rebrand our Coffee Hour into a "Creative Get-Together / Co-Working Session"? Instead of a formal Q&A, we use this 1 hour to actually do things together. You bring your current editing backlog, organize your Lightroom catalog, or plan your next shoot. We hang out on camera, maybe play some lofi beats, work side-by-side, and just chat casually—like hanging out in a studio together. It can be dedicated time you block off to finally allow yourself to get your creative work done, with the motivation of a group! Please vote in the poll below so I know what works best for you! (Poll Options) If you have any other ideas on how we can make our time together more inspiring right now, please drop a comment below. I’m building this for us, so your input means everything!

Assignment #9: Dust and Wire
For this one, I really wanted to capture the feeling of quiet endurance. I pushed the edit towards this heavy, gritty yellow tone because it instantly reminds me of the thick heat and dust of the city streets. Usually, yellow is a bright, happy color, but I wanted this to feel the exact opposite—heavy and environmental. I feel like it perfectly matches the vibe of the cat just sitting there patiently behind the wire, surviving the day. Let me know what you guys think!
