Youtube shorts
A few things I’ve learned from making short content:
• Do not upload to try to grow your long form content. If you want to promote your stream it’s different. But converting someone mindlessly scrolling to watching long form content is very unlikely. You need to be able to do long form content and use short form as a separate channel. If someone found you for your shorts, they will mostly watch you for your shorts.
• Hook is KEY. You cannot spoil the ending in the hook. If people aren’t interested in the first 1-3 seconds (3 seconds is generous) they’re not going to watch your video.
• Anticipating to the end is also key. This needs to come with an emotional payoff and have a reason for people to keep watching (i.e. The last one in this list of things do before you die is the most important) Now people will stay to the end.
• Shorts pay close to nothing unless you’re getting millions of views or have a high RPM niche. Long form content pays a lot more.
• Biggest thing people lack in making videos is giving the audience clarity to what’s happening. This means connecting the dots we assume the audience will understand and speaking in the 4th grade level. This could also be a visual issue if there’s too much clutter happening on the screen.
• People like simple and fast. Each short should have a new visual within 3-5 seconds of another.
