The Part of Sobriety Nobody Warned Me About
One thing I didn’t expect when getting sober was how many emotions would come up once the substances were gone. When you’re using, it can numb everything. When you stop, you suddenly feel everything again — stress, sadness, anxiety, but also moments of clarity and growth.
At first that was really overwhelming for me. I had to learn new ways to cope instead of running from those feelings.
Recovery isn’t just about stopping a substance. It’s about learning how to live life and deal with emotions in healthier ways.
If you’re in recovery, did you notice your emotions feel stronger in sobriety?
