GRAMMAR BREAKDOWN
1. "SE CONTINUAR" = IF IT CONTINUES (Conditional Clause)
Se = if
Continuar = continue (infinitive form)
The "if" clause uses FUTURE SUBJUNCTIVE in Portuguese:
Se continuar = if it continues/should it continue
This is NOT "se continu" or "se continua" (those are different tenses).
Future subjunctive shows POSSIBILITY, not certainty.
Se chover = if it rains
Se nevar = if it snows
Se melhorar = if it improves
2. "ASSIM" = LIKE THIS (Manner Reference)
Assim = in this way/like this/this way
It refers to the weather pattern being CONTINUING THE SAME.
Se continuar assim = if it keeps going like this (same bad pattern)
Outros exemplos:
Se ficar assim = if it stays like this
Se piorar assim = if it worsens like this
3. "VAMOS TER" = WE WILL HAVE (Future Consequence)
Vamos = we are going to (future with "ir")
Ter = have
Vamos ter problemas = we will have problems
This creates the CONSEQUENCE of the condition:
IF (condition) β†’ THEN (consequence)
Se continuar assim β†’ vamos ter problemas
4. "OS CASTANHEIROS" = THE CHESTNUT TREES (Regional Knowledge)
Castanheiro = chestnut tree (Beiras symbol!)
Os castanheiros = the chestnut trees (plural)
This is NOT random vocabulary. Chestnuts are:
- Historical Beiras crop
- Economic importance (past + present)
- Weather-sensitive
- Cultural symbol

B2 CONSEQUENCE VOCABULARY
Problem = Problema
Suffer = Sofrer
Harvest = Colheita
Frost = Geada
Drought = Seca
Yield = Colheita / Rendimento
Damage = Dano
PRACTICAL B2 EXAMPLES
Se não chover nos próximos meses, a colheita vai sofrer muito. [=If no rain next months, harvest will suffer a lot] 🌾
Se o verão for extremamente quente, os castanheiros padecem. [=If summer extremely hot, chestnuts suffer] 🌞
Se a geada chegar cedo, as flores morrem e nΓ£o hΓ‘ fruto. [=If frost early, flowers die, no fruit] β„οΈπŸŒΈ
Se continuar esta seca, vamos ter problemas econΓ³micos graves. [=If this drought continues, we'll have serious economic problems] πŸ“‰

PRACTICE TASKS
Task 1: Local consequences
Think of YOUR region's agriculture/economy.
Write: "Se continuar [weather pattern], vamos ter..."
Task 2: Conditional chain
Link 3 weather conditions to 3 consequences:
- Se + condition 1 β†’ consequence 1
- Se + condition 2 β†’ consequence 2
- Se + condition 3 β†’ consequence 3
Task 3: Beiras research
Research: What crops are sensitive to frost/drought in Beiras?
Write B2 sentences about each.
Task 4: Voice recording
Record yourself discussing weather consequences.
Use conditional sentences with "se + consequence".
Post below! πŸŽ™οΈ
CONNECTING A1 β†’ A2 β†’ B1 β†’ B2
A1: EstΓ‘ a chover? (simple fact)
A2: Vai chover amanhΓ£? (future prediction)
B1: O tempo estΓ‘ a mudar muito. (pattern observation)
B2: Se continuar assim, vamos ter problemas. (consequence thinking)
You've moved from OBSERVATION β†’ PREDICTION β†’ ANALYSIS β†’ CONSEQUENCE!
