Where’s your head at?
Answering this question will determine if you are in the future or the past, reliving memories or creating imagination.
Being aware of your thoughts will allow you to know if they are helpful or not then change them if not.
“But it’s difficult to know what’s going on in my head”
The mind and body are connected and are constantly communicating to each other so listening to your body will give you an idea of whats going on in your mind.
If you feel anxious for example, your mind will be creating future scenarios of an event you have coming up. Chances are your imagination is thinking worst case and repeating which is causing your body to react negatively.
Tips to move from negative feelings:
- how does your body feel?
- find what is playing in your mind to create these feelings.
- reframe/edit/change the thought. This can be done by consciously thinking about something else, zooming in or out of the situation to bring more or less information in or change the structure of the thought by rewinding it, changing the colour, stepping out into other person if you are seeing through your own eyes.
Any of the above will help to distract the ruminating thought pattern and snap you out of the lock it has on you.
You will notice your feelings change as soon as you do this, even if it’s slight.
