Lukewarm is no good
In recent years, my lifelong love of the game of rugby has been reignited by my Son taking up the sport. I went from freezing on the sidelines, to coaching his team (it's like herding cats), to playing touch rugby most weeks. It's fitting that it's my son that's brought this love back to life, as it was my Dad that taught me the joy of the game when I was his age. Aside from playing and coaching, I've become a huge fan of the women's game, not for gross voyeuristic reasons, but because it's a much more entertaining game to watch most of the time, with more running rugby and less egos. One of my favourite players is Ellie Killdune, the England and Harlequins full back. She's electric to watch and has a very engaging off pitch personality to match. She recalls a story of her grandfather teaching her a Roald Dahl quite, which she had lived by, and now has tattooed on her: "Lukewarm is no good" and it just about sums up where I am with Nursing. I'm finding newly qualified life, and the expectation it brings challenging, mainly because we usually only have time for Lukewarm. I can't sit with my patient and give them a full, proper explanation of their condition, procedure etc, because my next admission is rolling in. I can't always complete a full rehab conversation in one sitting, as I've got to with another patient for MRI. To get everything done, all my paperwork totally perfect (because come handover, that's what I'll be judged on) the best I can do is Lukewarm. That's not me, I LOVE this job, I'm fiercely passionate about it, so Lukewarm is no good.

Fuck it. Do it anyway.
The phrase "fuck it, do it anyway" is not a formal, recognized academic theory, but rather a popular expression that encapsulates a philosophy or mindset focused on overcoming fear, doubt, and external opposition to pursue a desired course of action. Here is a summary of the common principles associated with this mindset: * Action Over Analysis/Fear: The core idea is to bypass excessive rumination, procrastination, or fear of failure and just take the leap. It encourages movement and execution despite anticipating difficulties or warnings. * Rejection of External Judgment: The phrase is often used to dismiss the opinions, criticism, or potential judgment of others. It champions the idea of living authentically and prioritizing one's own will or desire over social pressure or conventional wisdom. * Embracing Difficulty: It suggests an acknowledgement that the chosen path may be extremely difficult, unconventional, or likely to fail (e.g., "you're also picking the absolute hardest path... Fuck it, do it anyway"). It's a defiant push through the "danger/warning signs." * Existential or Personal Meaning: In a broader philosophical sense, it aligns with elements of existentialism—the idea of ignoring what the world says and choosing to live life on one's own terms to find personal meaning in an otherwise meaningless existence. * Self-Trust and Acceptance: In some contexts, it can be a way to move past self-sabotage or procrastination, suggesting that once you accept and trust yourself, the obstacles become manageable. In short, the "fuck it, do it anyway" mindset is a rallying cry for bold, decisive action taken in the face of fear, difficulty, and naysayers.

Hi everyone, I’m Ash and I’m thrilled to be launching this community! I’m a 36-year-old Registered Nurse here to kick things off. I might be newly qualified, but I’m certainly not new to healthcare—I’ve worked across various roles in the NHS since 2016. I'm incredibly passionate about personal and professional development, and I believe that becoming the best nurse possible starts with being the best version of yourself. Outside of the hospital, you'll find me focused on exercise and nutrition, always striving to be a good human in everything I do! I can’t wait to learn from all of you, share our experiences, and build a powerful community.

Forest Bathing 🌲 🛁
POV: Your brain needs a spa day 🧖‍♀️🌲 It's called Forest Bathing (Shinrin-Yoku) and here’s the science-backed tea: ✨ Reduces Stress Hormones: A walk in the woods literally lowers your cortisol (stress hormone) levels. Bye-bye tension! ✨ Boosts Mood: It's a natural antidepressant! Studies show it significantly reduces feelings of anxiety, depression, and fatigue. Hello, positive vibes! ✨ Improves Focus: Nature helps restore your attention, making your mind sharper and increasing your ability to concentrate. Time to hit refresh! Go outside, breathe in the air (those tree chemicals called phytoncides are boosting your immune system!), and let the forest do its magic. You don't have to hike hard—just be present. 💚 #ForestBathing #MentalHealth #NatureTherapy #SelfCare #WalkInTheWoods #AnxietyRelief #Mindfulness #ShinrinYoku #GreenSpace #Wellness
