Benefits of activating Red Light:
1) Sleep and Circadian Rhythm: ๐ด
Red light wavelengths are less disruptive to the body's natural sleep processes compared to blue or white light, which can suppress melatonin production and interfere with sleep.
Red light at night can help regulate the circadian rhythm by keeping cortisol levels low, which is important for transitioning to sleep.
Also, for shift workers, red light can be used to stay awake without disrupting melatonin production or increasing cortisol at night.
2) Vision and Eye Health: ๐๏ธ
Red light therapy can potentially offset age-related vision loss by enhancing mitochondrial function in the photoreceptors of the retina.
It may also help reduce drusen, which are fatty deposits in the eye associated with age-related macular degeneration.
3)ย Stress Reduction: ๐ง๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Red and infrared light therapies are known to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps counteract the stress response. By promoting relaxation, these therapies can reduce the physical and emotional symptoms of anxiety.
When do I Enable This Feature?โ๏ธ
Aim for 2 hours before you plan to go to sleep, as this will bring you the maximum benefits. Although if you can only do 30 minutes to 1 hours before sleep, it is still vastly healthier for your sleep then not doing it at all.
Automation: ๐ฆพ
You can often set up a schedule to automatically turn on the red light filter at a specific time, such as sunset to sunrise or a custom time.
This helps reduce decision fatigue while still gaining the benefits of this effective technique.
