WELCOME TO OFF GRID ACADEMY!
Welcome, I'm thrilled you're here. I'm Jim, the creator of Off Grid Academy, qualified Electrician, and lifelong Off-Gridder. It's really great to have you here, I hope this community provides you with endless value, knowledge, confidence, and sense of community. I started this community as a place to build something we all need. It can be so difficult to find correct information all in one place on the internet, that is rooted in competence, not just opinion. I see way too many people struggling to design, construct, and understand electrical systems that fit their way of life. This doesn't need to be hard, sure, theres safety considerations that must be made, but we, together, with safety at the forefront, can walk this journey together. We will get into the nitty gritty not too far down the line, I'll put up a post outlining how this group will look moving forward, what you can expect from me, and whats available. Until then, feel free to introduce yourselves in the comments below, let me know where you're from, why you joined, and what you hope to get out of this investment in yourself. I'd love to help you achieve your goals!

Product Spotlight 001 - B&L Shunt Busbar
These days, majority of systems created use a shunt. Shunts are a super handy way of keeping track of battery state of charge, as well as measuring net current flow in or out or power being used, some shunts even plot this data for you to look back on later. These are especially useful for lithium systems as they have such a flat voltage curve as the battery is discharged. However, if you have a mid sized system with a few charge and discharge components, it can be tricky to get all negative cables back to the shunt neatly and in a compact way. This shunt busbar fits straight onto most common shunts, and provides 4x M8 posts for the connection of negative cables, while only increasing the size of the shunt minimally. Super convenient if you have a compact setup, or don't want to run a negative busbar for whatever reason. I've used these in a couple of builds now and can't fault them. The guys at B&L Custom Electrical in Melbourne do some great work in solving little problems like this for us, it's earned a well deserved place on this list. https://custom-electrical.com.au/product/shunt-busbar

Product Spotlight 001 - B&L Shunt Busbar
Product Spotlight Intro
I thought this would be a really useful space for me to share any of the product recommendations I have with all of you. These are things I've used along the way and swear by. Whether they're super convenient, solve a common problem, make things easier, neater or safer, or are from a smaller company that you may not know of. When I do, if theres any way I can save you a couple of dollars $$, I'll post it on the relevant product post. I'll aim to do these weekly, but if I find something thats worth being here ASAP, I'll make sure it happens! If you'd like to submit a product idea to be posted here, I'd love to see it.
