Performance anxiety? You’re not alone
Sport-related anxiety is real—and it’s something almost every athlete goes through. The key isn’t eliminating it, but learning how to manage it so you can perform at your best. Here’s how 👇🏽 1️⃣ Control your breath 🫁Anxiety speeds up your heart rate and tightens your muscles. Slow, intentional breathing (like box breathing: in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4) resets your nervous system and brings your focus back. 2️⃣ Shift your focus 🎯Most anxiety comes from worrying about the outcome—what if I mess up? What if I don’t get the result? Instead, anchor yourself in controllables: your breathing, footwork, or the very next play. That’s where confidence lives. 3️⃣ Talk to yourself like a teammate 💬Your inner voice can either be your worst critic or your best coach. When nerves creep in, replace “I can’t mess up” with “I’m ready—I’ve put in the work.” Positive self-talk builds trust in your preparation. 4️⃣ Create a pre-performance routine 🔄Nerves thrive on uncertainty. A routine (listening to music, specific stretches, visualization) gives your mind a sense of familiarity and control. It tells your body: “I’ve been here before, I know what to do.” 5️⃣ Reframe the feeling ⚡That jittery energy? It’s your body gearing up to compete. The same adrenaline that makes you feel nervous is what helps you run faster, focus sharper, and react quicker. Stop fighting it—channel it. 👉🏽 Remember: pressure is a privilege. Anxiety means you care. With the right tools, you can transform nerves into power. Save this for the next time you feel those butterflies—and share it with a teammate who needs it. 🏆

Hey guys! S/O to Jaïro for setting up this community. I encourage you to make yourself known here and seek all the wisdom you can get your hands on. No-one's gonna do this thing for you. I moved to Miami in August 2018 with the dream of playing D1 football. I watched the same FIU hype tape over and over again 100% convinced that I was gonna be in that uniform one day. I touched down in the US and the first thing I did was drop my bags in my dorm, and walk straight to the football stadium to speak to whoever was in charge of recruiting, and the rest is history.
