Hockey Mind Minute: Stop Asking For Permission To Be Confident.
“No one is coming to knight you and give you permission to play like a top player. at tryouts” Most players do not lack skill. They lack permission. They wait for confidence to be granted by ice time, points, or a coach’s mood. That is why they play safe. That is why they hesitate. That is why one bad shift can steal their entire game. Here is the fix you can use today. Run the Permission Protocol before every game. Step 1. Forgive yourself fast. You cannot play free while punishing yourself for yesterday. Step 2. Choose your role with intention. Confidence is not a feeling. It is reliability inside your role. Step 3. Commit to one proof behavior. One action that proves you are that player, even if you do not feel ready yet. Example. “I am an impact player.” “Next shift, I touch the puck again.” “Next shift, I hold it for one second and make a play.” That is dangerous confidence. Not hype. Not arrogance.
