“Do you think fresh food is becoming more mainstream?
7. The Biggest Mistake in DIY Dog Food People often cook the same foods every day. But dogs need rotation just as much as we do. Rotate proteins. Rotate veggies. Rotate supplements. Variety prevents nutritional gaps and creates a richer microbiome. What kinds of fresh do you add to your dogs food?

Let’s skip the weekend for a minute.
Think about tomorrow morning. You wake up slowly, before the alarm really matters. There’s a familiar weight at the side of the bed — the dog who’s been awake for a while, watching, waiting, hopeful. Your hand reaches down automatically. A scratch behind the ears. A sigh from both of you. You make your way into the kitchen. Coffee first — always. While it brews, you glance toward the dog bowl and start thinking about breakfast. Not yours. Hers. You scoop out the food you’ve been using. It’s not cheap. It’s supposed to be “good.” She eats it without complaint, because that’s what dogs do. Still… you’ve seen things lately. Posts from other dog owners. Conversations you didn’t plan to pay attention to. Talk of fresh food. Gently cooked meals. Real ingredients. You’ve also seen the headlines. Recalls. Illnesses. Brands you once trusted. Raw feeding crosses your mind — and just as quickly, you dismiss it. Too extreme. Too risky. Too many opinions. Besides, no one you know feeds that way. And you don’t feel like explaining yourself. The coffee’s ready now. You pour a cup as she crunches away, tail thumping softly against the floor. You open the fridge to figure out your own breakfast. Eggs. Bacon. Something real. And for just a moment, the thought lingers: If this matters for me… why wouldn’t it matter for her?
