About the Blackfeet Nation
The Blackfeet Nation, also known as the Blackfoot Confederacy, is one of the most respected and historically powerful Indigenous groups of the Northern Plains. The Blackfeet people traditionally lived across present-day Montana, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, with a culture deeply connected to the buffalo, the land, and strong warrior traditions.
The Blackfoot Confederacy was made up of several closely related nations, including the Siksika, Kainai (Blood Tribe), Piikani (Peigan), and the South Peigan, now known as the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. Together, these nations shared language, ceremonies, trade routes, and mutual protection while remaining independent communities.
For generations, the Blackfeet were known as skilled hunters, horse riders, traders, and warriors. Buffalo played a central role in daily life, providing food, clothing, shelter, and tools.
