🎡 Nurses Got Talent! ✦
Yes. We. Do. πŸ’™
Behind every set of scrubs β€” worn by nurses of every gender, every background, every specialty and every season of this profession β€” there is a whole human being with gifts that have absolutely nothing to do with a stethoscope.
Male nurses. Female nurses. Nurses of every identity who chose this work because something in them knew they were built for it.
Every single one of them arrived here carrying more than clinical skills.
Nurses paint. Nurses sing. Nurses write poetry at midnight. Nurses grow gardens that would make a horticulturalist weep. Nurses cook like they trained under a chef instead of in a simulation lab. Nurses play instruments, take photographs, sculpt, draw, quilt, dance, compose, and create things with their hands that are pure magic.
And this community? This community is full of them.
You just have not had a stage yet. 🎀
✦ Consider this your stage. ✦
The Nurses Sanctuary is not just a place to process the hard things β€” though it is absolutely that too. It is a place to be seen in the fullness of who you are. The whole nurse. The whole person. The artist, the creator, the gardener, the musician who also happens to save lives for a living.
Gentlemen β€” this means you too. πŸ’™ The male nurses in this community are every bit as creative, every bit as talented, and every bit as welcome to this stage as anyone else. The nurse who plays guitar on his days off. The nurse who cooks like a five-star restaurant happens to exist in his kitchen. The nurse who paints, writes, builds, photographs, or grows things. We want to hear from you. This community is yours.
So today we are opening the floor to every nurse in the Nurses Sanctuary β€” no exceptions, no asterisks.
🎀 Do you sing? Let us hear it β€” or at least hear about it!
🎸 Do you play an instrument? What do you play?
🎨 Do you paint, draw, photograph, or create visual art?
✍️ Do you write β€” poetry, fiction, journaling, songwriting?
🌿 Do you garden? What are you growing right now?
🍳 Is the kitchen your creative space?
🧢 Do you knit, quilt, sew, or make things with your hands?
πŸ’ƒ Do you dance?
πŸ› οΈ Do you build, woodwork, or create with your hands in any form?
🎭 Is there a talent on this list that I missed entirely?
Drop it in the comments. Share a photo. Tell us your story. πŸ’™
✦ I will go first. ✦
I play the ukulele AND I write! :)
I know, I know. πŸ˜„
There is something about a ukulele that simply refuses to take itself too seriously β€” and after years of nursing that asks everything of you, there is something deeply healing about an instrument that is small and bright and a little bit joyful by nature. It does not require clinical precision. It does not care about your shift report. It just wants your fingers, your breath, and your willingness to be a little imperfect while you figure out the chord.
And that permission β€” to be imperfect, to be playful, to be something other than excellent for a few minutes β€” is one of the most restorative things any nurse can give themselves.
✦ Why this matters ✦
This is not just fun β€” though it absolutely is fun. πŸ’™
Creative expression is one of the most evidence-based nervous system restoration practices available. Music, art, gardening, writing, cooking with intention β€” these practices reduce cortisol, restore the emotional range that clinical work progressively depletes, and return us to the felt sense of being fully alive in our own lives.
The nurse who plays his guitar after a night shift is not wasting time.
The nurse who paints on her days off is not being indulgent.
They are both doing their most important recovery work.
They are being whole people. And whole people give better care.
✦ So much talent out there ✦
Nurses are extraordinary people β€” men and women alike β€” who chose an extraordinary profession. And most of us arrived at nursing already carrying gifts that the profession does not always make room for.
This community makes room. For all of it. For all of you. πŸ’™
Drop your talent below. Share your art. Introduce us to the version of you that exists beyond the badge.
We are ready to be amazed. πŸŽ΅βœ¨β¬‡οΈ
