I had a jam session with 3 old school friends/musicians: a drummer, singer and a guitarist.
Personally I think if you look at the big artists in my genre like Mayer, James Bay, Ed Sheeran etc they all played solo to begin their career as it’s profitable and gives you more time to make new music, and a good acoustic player can add interest into the arrangement anyway.
My friends practically had a go at me for not wanting to have a band at the minute as I like playing solo and don’t need one, but they see it as unambiguous and lazy, but I don’t see it that way.
In the modern music world, do you see any point at the start of your career having a band as I personally don’t. Since you can have your friends/session players on your tracks anyway. In a live setting it makes a lot more sense playing solo in small venues rather than splitting 5 ways etc and then having to have a job on the side to pay bills.
Am I being crazy? Because I feel like I’m the only sane one of the 4 of us in the group and I’m getting radio play playing everything myself. I almost feel like their jealous of me as they can’t play solo themselves and would need a band.
Sos for the rant but the topics been driving me crazy hahaha
