How can I make my kick and bass work together better in the mix?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been struggling to get my kick and bass to sit well together in the mix. Every time I listen back, they either clash or the low end feels muddy, and I lose that punchy, clean sound I’m going for.
I’m mainly working on house music in FL Studio, but I imagine the principles are similar across genres and DAWs. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
• Sidechain compression (but maybe I’m not dialing it in right?)
• EQing the bass to make room for the kick’s frequencies
• Playing with different bass sounds, but I’m still not happy with the results
Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or techniques they use to make their kick and bass work together better? Specific examples or plugin recommendations would be super helpful too!
Thanks in advance for your help! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. 🙌
