One of the biggest challenges when coming from a single-modal sport (cycling, running, etc.) into hybrid racing is the constant switching nature of the sport. Hyrox has fifteen transitions, run to station, station to run, plus continuous changes in body position (vertical to horizontal such as burpees) and completely different loading profiles. Pushing a sled is not the same as pulling one. Yes, physiological preparedness matters. Your engine matters. But a huge part of preparation is simply getting used to variability, because variability is the sport. You can have a high VO₂max or great running economy, but your ability to tolerate and recover from high-frequency switches in movement pattern, posture, and muscle recruitment is what really determines performance. So when you prepare for Hyrox, treat variability as a progressive overload variable. Let us know what you think.
