Jack Jenkins' weekend at UFC 312 turned out to be far worse than just a tough loss in the octagon.
Facing Gabriel Santos in a preliminary bout on Saturday, Jenkins started strong, even dropping Santos with a kick in the opening round. However, as the fight progressed, the Brazilian took control and secured a Rear Naked Choke finish in the third round.
But Jenkins' troubles didn’t end there. After the fight, he was taken to the hospital for routine medical evaluations and initially discharged. However, doctors later discovered fractured cartilage in his thyroid, leading to his readmission.
MMA Fighting confirmed that Jenkins remained under medical supervision throughout the weekend before being released from the ICU on Monday.
Interestingly, Jenkins’ team does not believe the injury was caused by the Rear Naked Choke. Instead, they suspect it may have occurred at the end of the first round, as Jenkins had informed his corner of numbness and a loss of strength in his left arm.
The loss drops Jenkins to 3-2 in the UFC, with an overall professional record of 13-4.
