This year i have promised all of my clients that I will send more text based campaigns. This is because they are so effective.
However! Just because they are effective doesn't mean you should send them all the time. The thing is they are pattern interrupts.
If you generally send well designed emails then the text based campaign will look different and stop them in their tracks.
But, if you send text based campaigns all the time then they become boring.
