Quantum Immortality
A lesser-known idea that emerged from the sciences states that it’s actually impossible to ‘die’ in the ordinary sense, since consciousness from the first-person perspective can’t be extinguished so to speak.
It is an extremely interesting theory. The main thing that makes me doubt it, however, is thinking about old-age, and how that would work if consciousness residing in the one body is ever-lasting.
Like would an old and sick person in the hospital just constantly be kept alive as their body deteriorate more and more to the point where they’re barely conscious yet marginally so?
Scary thought, but it’s certainly an interesting — yet fringe — idea that provokes thought even if it’s not true.
