Funny travel team baseball story (pure ignorance)
So my family use to go to Destin, Florida once a yr with 8-10 families. When I was 12 yrs old, we went on our trip like usual, our trip was Monday-Sunday. This yr was different bc I had a baseball tourney back in Dallas Saturday & Sunday, meaning, we knew we had to leave Friday morning and miss the last two days of vacation. This caused a lot of stress, anxiety & frustration. Reasons were, a lot of money was spent on trip, we only went to beach once a yr and didn’t wanna leave early, ect. I was the starting short stop and for whatever reason felt like, if I missed the tourney, I wouldn’t have my position anymore, which wasn’t true in the slightest!! So Friday morning came & my mom, dad & brother all headed home. Long story short, we wake up Saturday morning after making it home, We drive to the fields to start warm ups 1 hour before game & literally, my team warmed up together and 3 min before first pitch, it starting raining and lighting & the entire tourney was cancelled. Needless to say, we learned our lesson and realized, no baseball at any age, is more important than family time/family vacation’s. Before we headed back home due to rain, I spoke to my coach explaining how we left vacation early & he was in shock. He said, never again leave a family vacation for a 12u tournament. If anything, skip the pool play & show up for bracket play. All this being said as a person who never missed 1 practice or game. So it’s not like I was someone skipping & missing all the time and expected to play. This was a tournament that got scheduled due to other tourneys getting rained out and our vacation was planned and paid for, before the tournament was scheduled. All the stress, rude words, frustration after we left our vacation early was for NOTHING!
