How’s your family lives with your cancer
When I was diagnosed in 2017 I was so focused on my own fear that it took me a while to notice something else happening in my house.
My kids were watching me differently. My parents were carrying a worry I couldn’t see because they didn’t want to add it to mine.
Everyone talks about the patient’s journey. Almost nobody talks about what it’s like to be the one standing next to him. Watching. Waiting on scan results. Trying to stay strong at dinner and then falling apart in the car.
Partners carry a version of this diagnosis too. So do kids, even grown ones. So do parents, no matter how old their son is.
