How to configure hosting and domain

When following the course, we learn how to purchase hosting and domain from DreamHost. We also learn how to configure DreamHost to setup WordPress with a one-click install.

But when building websites for clients, we discover they don't always work with DreamHost. They have sometimes only a domain name. And then it's up to us to connect the domain name to a hosting provider. And then install WordPress on it. Or configure WordPress with a domain name. The question is: how do you do that? They didn't teach this in the course.
