Don’t get bogged down in theory!
Sometimes some of the best songs are written from playing what you feel - getting bogged down in chord progressions and notes within a scale can limit your creativity at times

Intervals are Key!
Learning the distance between notes is one of the most useful practices in music! It helps when learning song by ear and being able to play what you hear in your mind when composing!

Chords are just stacked melodies
All chords are made up of the 7 notes of the major or minor scale you are in! Generally chords are every other note (e.g 1-3-5) however try any combination of 3 or 4 notes to come up with more complex chords e.g M7sus4 chord is 1-4-5-7!

Building Major and Minor Chords
A major chord triad is always built by: Root Note + 4 semi tones + 3 semi tones A minor chord triad is always built by: Root Note + 3 semi tones + 4 semi tones. Another way to view this is: To move from major to minor, lower the 3rd by a semi-tone To move from minor to major, move the 3rd up by a semi-tone Let me know if this helps!
