Welcome! 😎 Successful producers today integrate innovative new tools that also allow aspiring musicians, DJs, or anyone with musicality to make professional music without the technical skills previously required (until approximately the summer of 2025.)
🚫🤖 We are NOT talking about so-called AI music, with pretend artists and human fans - that is a fad like Pokémon.
🔈📱⚡️We are talking about a hybrid workflow using mobile apps and algorithmic sample generation. I produced the track linked using this approach.
🎸Learning instruments is so much fun (I am a conservatory-trained instrumentalist), and learning a DAW like Ableton or even a DAW in a box that you can strike like the MPC (I have two of them) necessitates next-level engineering and composition skills and 10k hours 🧑🏾💻⏳⌛️
None is necessary to make professional music anymore. That is a fact and your opinion or feelings are not going to change that. I am sorry to say that if it is hard to accept, like it was for me - at first. 🎻
What we will learn here will be how your kids’ musical idols produce. This is a generation change.
📀⚡️Of course, we are talking about electronic music forms, including hip-hop genres. So yes, if you get unplugged, and you don’t know how to play an instrument or sing, or clap, or compose, or beatbox, or rap... then, you know, you are not going to be making music 🧐
You would not be joining this Skool either 🤓
💡The good news - this approach is a lot cheaper and accessible to people over the world than the minimal viable studio until today (DAW, Laptop, Speakers/Headphones/Sound Card/Sound engineering skills (an engineer is not by definition, a musician). This workflow is less technical, but just as musical. We can now lower the barrier to entry for people that were until now locked out of music production at this level 🌏🌍🌎
📚Anyway, this is not an economics lecture, nor is it a music theory class, or a musicology course. It is music history, though 💥👲
Let’s go 👊🏾👊🏼👊🏽
SAMPLING 📀📀📀‼️©️
Once considered cheating, popular electronic and hiphop music genres fall under what’s called sample-based music.
DOWNLOAD KOALA SAMPLER 📢📢📣📣
Is my advice. $5-7 USD 1-time payment. I own all the fancy hardware samplers and this is by far the most intuitive sampler I use, and the most fun. And if you’re not having fun you are doing it wrong!
😑 I apologize for not starting up with introductions, but there are no members yet, and I haven’t figured out the whole classroom thing. So we will start like this and when we start for real , we will get to know each other.
⏳I’ll be back with some video content about sampling. One tip, a you obviously need something to sample: I recommend your voice and the human body - clapping, slapping (yourself and/or consensually with friends). There are lots of nooks and crannies that make very cool sounds that can be manipulated with the effects in Koala Sampler, or other apps.
👀In the meantime I encourage you to go often to the App Store or Google Play for free music apps (J6 Synth is great, Korg Gadget, Remixlive) and see what you like. This is a course for people that are not afraid to experiment with stuff.
🎩 Another tip: if you want to be a musician, start today. If you want to be a DJ producer, you are already one just not a good one yet. The people that wait around to get the best equipment or for the ideal moment are not the real deal in my experience, which is quite extensive. Be who you are… manifest it ⛳️
This is not a self-help course either 😏
