Submitted my first Fairy home to Annmarie Sculpture garden for their annual submission and thoroughly enjoyed the process of experimenting with new materials!
Things I thought came out well:
- horseshoe door (a technique I have done when leading workshops) with working knocker
- working swing
- popsicle stick interior flooring
- tiled patio
- painting expanding foam to look like rocks over the plywood base
- the ladder coming out very clean with no visible glue thanks to being able to inset the rungs into holes
- engraving swirls in stone, definitely something I will repeat
- sculpting polymer mushrooms
Things I didn't love the end result of or want to explore alternatives for:
- covering the base structure in moss made the project a little more expensive and created a busier texture than I was hoping
- adding more painted elements for bright spots of color, while I generally gravitate to a more neutral/natural palette I felt like this piece was a little flat in the end from a value perspective
- the painted pond area I liked but am curious about adding epoxy in the future for depth/different texture finish
- what to put behind stick window frame, here I had some depth and painted a candle glow color inside but wasn't happy with how it read
