🌿 DAY 6 — Morning Theme: LISTENING TO UNDERSTAND FEELINGS NOT JUST WORDS: Discovering The Heart Behind the Conversation. 🌅 Reflection THE SILENCE THAT HURTS: When Couples Stop Talking Good morning, One of the painful experiences in marriage is living with someone with whom you can no longer communicate freely. You share the same bedroom, eat at the same table and attend the same family functions, yet meaningful conversations have gradually disappeared. You may talk about the children, household expenses, food and daily responsibilities, but rarely discuss your feelings, disappointments, dreams or personal struggles. Sometimes, this silence begins after repeated disagreements. One partner feels misunderstood. The other becomes tired of arguments. Eventually, both decide that keeping quiet is easier than talking. But silence does not always mean peace. A husband may stop sharing his concerns because he believes his wife will criticise him. A wife may stop expressing her feelings because she feels her husband never listens. Over time, both become emotionally distant. Consider a couple who have had a disagreement. The husband refuses to speak to his wife for several days because he wants her to realise how much she has offended him. The wife, feeling rejected, also withdraws. Instead of resolving the problem, their silence deepens the wound. There is a difference between taking a healthy break to calm down and using silence as punishment. Sometimes, taking time to cool down is wise. However, it should be communicated respectfully, with an intention to return to the conversation. For example: "I'm upset right now, and I don't want us to say hurtful things. Can we take some time and talk about this later?" That is different from deliberately shutting your spouse out. Marriage needs communication, even when conversations are difficult. Do not allow temporary disagreements to become permanent emotional distance. 📖 God's Word Ephesians 4:26 (NIV) "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.
