The Conquest of Makkah
After the Conquest of Makkah, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered the city peacefully. For many years the people of Makkah had placed idols around the Kaaba and worshipped them. There were about 360 idols inside and around the Kaaba.
When the Prophet ﷺ entered the Kaaba, he began removing the idols one by one. While striking them with a stick, he recited the verse of the Qur’an:
“Truth has come and falsehood has vanished. Indeed falsehood is bound to vanish.”(Qur’an 17:81)
Each idol fell to the ground and was destroyed. In this way, the Kaaba was purified again for the worship of Allah alone, just as it was originally built by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Ismail (AS).
After the idols were removed, the Prophet ﷺ prayed inside the Kaaba and thanked Allah for the victory. Then he addressed the people of Makkah who had once persecuted the Muslims. Instead of taking revenge, he showed mercy and said:
“What do you think I will do with you?”
They replied, “You are a noble brother and the son of a noble brother.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“I say to you what Yusuf (AS) said to his brothers: No blame will there be upon you today. Go, for you are free.”
Because of this forgiveness, many people of Makkah accepted Islam.
