Pontozó 2026 Opening Tanchaz is happening in 9 days
Congrats to Hamilton, Ontario’s Rozmaring Dance Ensemble!
In an age when we see Hungarian folkdance groups in the diaspora sometimes folding or on long-term hiatus, it’s refreshing to see new ensembles pop up! Last night, Hamilton, Ontario’s Rozmaring Dance Ensemble celebrated its 10th anniversary with a lovely thematic show and a post-performance dinner, tanchaz, and ball. They hosted the event in the charming, old-school St. Stephen’s Catholic Church basement hall where they rehearse. They have multiple groups (from little ones to alumni), and many of their dancers will be at Pontozo in Cleveland in a few weeks. Gratulalunk!!!!!

Beginner Kalotaszegi Legényes Course
Want to start dancing but don't know how? You can start from the comfort of your home. The legényes is the solo men's dance of Kalotaszeg. It is usually played in every Tanchaz, and it's a lot of fun. Varga Zoltán is a dance teacher from Méra, Kalotaszeg. During Covid-19, he launched this beginner kalotaszegi legényes course, so that beginners with zero experience could learn how to dance the legényes. It's totally free on YouTube, here is the link, enjoy!
