When God created the heavens and the earth, His very first words were, “Let there be light.” Before plants grew, before the waters were separated, before life began to move and breathe—light came first.
That wasn’t by accident.
God’s light is foundational to all life. The same sunlight that nourishes the earth also nourishes us—body, mind, and spirit. Without it, our world would be cold, our food couldn’t grow, and even our hearts and minds would begin to fade.
Sunshine helps our bodies produce Vitamin D, strengthens our bones, balances hormones, supports immune function, and even lifts our mood by increasing serotonin—the “feel good” hormone that helps us feel calm and content.
But sunlight does more than affect chemistry.
It connects us with creation. It reminds us that we were never designed to live disconnected from the world God made.
The warmth on our skin, the light in our eyes, the gentle rhythm of daylight and darkness—these all remind our bodies of divine order and balance.
And when we combine that sunlight with deep breaths of fresh outdoor air, we experience a cleansing effect on the nervous system.
Fresh air increases oxygen to every cell, sharpens focus, and helps release built-up stress.
Together, sunlight and air act as God’s natural medicine—free, abundant, and life-giving.
Take time this weekend to step outside—first thing in the morning if you can. If not, get out there when you can. Let the sun kiss your face, feel the wind move through your lungs, and give thanks for this simple yet profound way God restores His creation.
How has spending time in the sun and fresh air changed your energy or mood lately?
