🍂 COMMUNITY PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE: SEASONAL COLOURS
This time, we’re exploring the colours of the season wherever you are in the world! We originally planned an autumn colours theme, but our community spans different countries and seasons, so Seasonal Colours gives everyone the chance to take part. Your challenge is to capture a macro or close-up photograph showing the colours of the season around you. Think rich autumn leaves, fresh spring flowers, vibrant summer subjects or the subtle tones of winter. Get close and explore the colours, textures and tiny details of your subject. Experiment with light, composition and creative techniques to make your image stand out. This is a macro and close-up challenge, so wider scenes and landscape photographs will not be accepted. 📅 CHALLENGE DATES: Entries open: 5th October Entries close: 8th November Live challenge review: 9th November I’ve backdated the start of the challenge to 5th October, so photographs taken from that date are eligible. I’m delighted that @Angi Wallace will be joining me to co-judge the challenge during the live call on 9th November! 📷 HOW TO ENTER: • Submit one high-resolution macro or close-up image • Include the photograph’s EXIF data • Your image must have been taken during the challenge period • Include your season in the image file name, for example: YourName_Autumn.jpg or YourName_Spring.jpg • Upload your entry using the submission form • Images added directly to the comments will not be accepted 👉 Submit your challenge entry Please photograph responsibly and take care not to damage your subjects or the habitat around them. I can’t wait to see the seasonal colours and small details from your corner of the world! 🍂🌸☀️❄️

📸 September Showcase Time! ✨
A little later than planned this month, as I’ve been busy with workshops and reviews, but let’s celebrate what you’ve been creating! Share your favourite image you created in September and tell us a little about it. What inspired you? How did you make it? Or why is it special to you? ✅ No theme ✅ No pressure ✅ No judgement It doesn’t need to be perfect or even finished! It could be a completed piece, a fun experiment, a work in progress, or simply something you enjoyed creating. Every image is part of your creative journey, and if it means something to you, it absolutely belongs here. Don’t be shy about sharing. Your work might inspire someone else to try something new, and this is a wonderfully supportive space to celebrate what we’ve all been making. ✨ A quick reminder: this is a sharing thread, not a critique. Let’s keep it positive, friendly, encouraging and inspiring. 💬 Remember to show some love to other creators too. A like or a kind comment can make someone’s day. 🙌 Can’t wait to see what everyone created in September! 💛

🤖📸 AI-Built Creative Apps: Would You Use One?
I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on people using AI to build alternatives to Adobe’s creative apps. What could this mean for photographers, especially those of us shooting macro? Would you trust an app built with AI to edit your images or handle focus stacking? Would your decision come down to how it was created, or the quality of its results? And where do you think the legal boundaries are? Could recreating features lead to lawsuits, or does it depend on whether someone copies code, branding or the interface? I’ve used AI to create a focus-stacking app myself, which got me wondering how far I could take it. Could I build a video-editing app too? What’s stopping more of us from creating tools tailored to our own workflows? Would you try an AI-built alternative, or stick with established software? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts and experiences! 🔍

Give it a go.
After seeing all the fantastic images on the challenge last week It gave me the inspiration to give it a go, I wanted to try out the in camera focus stacking on my R6 which didn't go very well so resorted to single shot, where the focus stacking needs auto focus I resorted to using a 12mm extension tube with my old ef 24-105 L lens, I did a couple of stacks with different apertures the takeaways were 1. should of used a timer 2. should of found a better subject, the image came out but had a lot of haloing which I assume was from the camera shake. I needed to find a better background but the most important one would be to give myself more time to play and look at the scene. The first image was a 15 image stack set to 4 increments. The second image is the single shot which I lit with a torch as I left the small rig light at work, I opted for shooting at F4 for this one to remove more of the distractions from the background.
Give it a go.
