Quick reassurance post, dollies 💗
If you’re getting headaches, feeling a bit nauseous or “off” in the first few days of the meat/fish detox, this is very common and usually nothing to worry about.
It’s not your body “failing” and it’s not something you need to push through to prove a point.
The most common reasons are:
• Sugar withdrawal
After Christmas, your body is used to regular sugar hits. Removing them can cause headaches, fogginess and low energy for a few days.
• Caffeine changes
If you’ve reduced coffee or energy drinks, headaches are a classic withdrawal symptom, usually days 2–4.
• Dehydration
Eating cleaner and lower-carb means you lose stored water quickly. Even mild dehydration can cause headaches.
• Low electrolytes
Cutting processed foods also cuts sodium. Low salt can equal headaches and fatigue.
• Calorie drop
If you’re eating less overall without realising, your body will let you know.
What helps
Drink more water than you think you need
Add a pinch of salt or electrolytes
Make sure you’re eating enough protein and healthy fats
Don’t cut caffeine too aggressively
Keep movement gentle for the first few days
This usually settles within a few days and you should start to feel clearer, lighter and more energised.
