The mind of a Child of Deaf Association
Hello everyone. This might be heavy for a first post but I wanted to be open from the get go. As a child of a single mother who is/was Deaf, I’ve undergone a unique raising that allows me to communicate with both the Deaf and the hearing. As growing up in any home is not easy and raising a wild child such as myself I haven’t always learned things the best way; as one might say I have created a habit of learning things the hard way. Mistakes in life are not always easy to admit and live through but the best thing about mistakes is we don’t have to learn from just our own but we can learn from others mistakes as well. I won’t ask you to share without sharing a story of my own. I’ve learned that people aren’t always kind. When they think you are deaf they feel free to say what is on their mind to their companion, friend, or company while you are around them; and that’s where I come in as learning what people really mean and getting that inside perspective as a CoDA. What unique perspective or experience have you gone through that you would like others to learn from?
