Social Security Disability Benefits
Hi everyone! I wanted to clarify something we discussed during happy hour. Two things Social Security looks at when you file for disability benefits based on your own work history/credits is 1) If you are currently able to work and engage in Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA), and 2) If you worked 5 out of the last 10 years. You do not need to have worked for 10 years, sorry about the confusion. There are also different rules if you file before age 24 or as a disabled adult child of a worker. I attached a screenshot from the SSA website, and this is the link: https://www.ssa.gov/disability/eligibility I cannot answer questions representing Social Security (if it is not part of my official duties), but I can answer questions as a friend and direct you to resources on the website. You can also visit any Social Security Office for current information.
