This course explores how learning to see more clearly shapes our understanding of place. Through short audio reflections and accompanying book of the same name, it introduces patterns of energy, care, and influence already present in landscapes and daily life. There is no design work here. The focus is on observation, context, and staying with what is seen — preparing the ground for thoughtful analysis and future decision-making.

Following on from How We Think and How We See, in this course we turn our attention to connection — how elements relate, how systems behave, and how our choices ripple outward over time. Permaculture is not only about land or design. It is about relationships — between people, places, resources, ideas, and actions. In this course, we explore how those relationships form, how they change, and how they shape what becomes possible.

How we decide shapes how we live. This course explores values, discernment, and ethical decision-making as living processes rather than fixed rules. Using real-world examples and reflective tools, learners are invited to hold complexity, navigate uncertainty, and develop an ethical compass that is responsive, grounded, and rooted in care.

Ideas only matter when they meet the ground. This course explores how values and intentions become action — through timing, skill, effort, care, and follow-through. It looks at work, maintenance, mistakes, and responsibility, supporting learners to act lightly, sustainably, and with integrity in everyday life.

Design is not about control, but stewardship. This course brings together thinking, seeing, connecting, deciding, and acting into an integrated design approach. Learners explore systems thinking, feedback, adaptation, and regenerative futures — understanding design as an ongoing, responsive practice that supports life to thrive over time.

This studio explores how climate, geography, and wider landscape forces shape what is possible in any place. Learners will look at climate zones, seasonal patterns, prevailing winds, altitude, proximity to oceans and mountains, and how these influence water, soils, vegetation, and settlement. The focus is on learning to read context — understanding constraints, opportunities, and limits before intervening — and recognising that good design begins beyond the site boundary.

LLW Field Guides are practical, bilingual resources designed for learning and teaching in real-world and challenging contexts. They can be used independently or alongside the LLW pathway and are especially helpful for facilitators working in community settings.
