Black History Month Reflection Value precedes money. Always. Much of Black history was shaped inside a relational economy—we supported one another because access, capital, and fair markets were often denied. That mutual support helped us survive. But survival systems are not the same as value systems. A relational economy says, “We support each other.” A value economy says, “Value comes first—and money follows.” Neither is immoral. But confusing them creates pressure, resentment, and blurred boundaries—especially for leaders and entrepreneurs. Here’s the leadership lesson: If someone buys from you to support you, that’s relational. If someone buys from you because what you offer is useful and impactful, that’s value. Principled business requires the courage to choose the second. Clean commerce looks like this: ◼️ No guilt ◼️ No obligation ◼️ No sympathy disguised as sales When value leads, trust compounds.
