Kakistocracy
Characteristics of the Tyranny of Kakistocracy (How It Operates)
In academic literature dealing with this subject, several mechanisms are identified through which a kakistocracy preserves its rule:
Negative Selection:
Incompetent leaders fear individuals who are smarter and more capable than themselves. Consequently, they appoint people with inferior abilities to key positions so they do not pose a threat to their standing.
Erosion of Expert Institutions: Deliberate damage to the civil service, academia, the judiciary, and professional mechanisms (discrediting experts), while framing expertise as a source of "corruption" or "elitism."
Loyalty Over Competence:
The sole criterion for advancement is not success in the role, but absolute loyalty to the leader or faction.
