Still on the SAVE plan? Your student loan clock is ticking ⏰
If you were on SAVE, this one's for you 👇 📬 WHAT'S HAPPENING SAVE is being shut down. Servicers have been sending notices since July giving borrowers about 90 days to pick a new plan. The first wave's window closed Sept 29, and some folks got a "final notice" with 30 more days. ⚠️ IF YOU DON'T PICK You can get moved into a Standard plan, and that payment can be a LOT higher than what you're used to 😬 ✅ YOUR MOVES THIS WEEK 1️⃣ Log in to StudentAid.gov and check what plan you're actually on 2️⃣ Read every letter and email from your servicer. Deadlines aren't the same for everybody 3️⃣ Compare IBR and the new RAP plan based on your income and family size 4️⃣ Online form not showing your plan? There's a paper application 5️⃣ Autopay takes a full 1% off your rate through June 2028. Enroll by Dec 31, 2026, but double-check your payment amount first 💡 WHY I CARE ABOUT THIS FOR YOUR CREDIT A payment that jumps overnight is how people end up late. 🔢 THE NUMBERS 📌 One hard inquiry usually costs most people under 5 points (myFICO) 📅 FICO only counts inquiries from the last 12 months 👋 They come off your report completely after 2 years 🛒 THE SHOPPING WINDOW Mortgage, auto and student loan shopping counts as ONE inquiry if you do it inside the window ⏱️ 14 days on older FICO versions, 45 on newer ones. Keep it inside 14 days and you're covered either way ✅ ⚠️ THE CATCH 💳 Credit cards don't get a shopping window.
